Vintage Alice Caviness Sterling and Marcasite Filigree Butterfly Brooch
This vintage sterling butterfly brooch from designer Alice Caviness is gold plated and accented with sparkling marcasites. The open work filigree is beautifully wrought giving the brooch a light and airy feel! The brooch is stamped Sterling, Germany. The Alice Caviness cartouche is missing, but this design is verified in her jewelry ads. The brooch is fairly large, measuring 3 1/4 by 1 3/4". Shown on page 143 of Costume Jewelry 101 by Julia C. Carroll.
